Springing into the new term

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 07-09-2017

Goodbye summer and Hello new term!

We have had such a fun filled week getting to know our new teachers, friends and routines. It’s all a bit different from what we are used to but it hasn’t stopped us getting stuck in to our exciting lessons.

Our first lesson this term was all about the season ‘Spring’. We have been getting all messy digging in the soil and planting some colourful flowers.

We were fascinated with windmills and how they spin in the breeze outside and with our classroom fan. Then took our shoes off and explored the grass using our toes and fingers. It felt very tickly!

Some of us did some fantastic colouring and writing skills too!

All the class 1 staff are so impressed with how well the children have settled in this week and can’t wait to see what great things we can achieve this year!

Well done everyone

A bite full of Geography

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 13-07-2017

This week in class one we have been doing Geography, learning about England, Scotland and Wales.

First we looked at England; finding out that our capital city is London and our flag is red, white and blue. Then had a little sing and dance to our national anthem.

Colouring in our own flags helped us remember the colours and practice our fine motor skills.

Class 1 then had a quick journey to wales to try a local dish called ‘Welsh rarebit’ otherwise known as Cheese on toast! We had a go at making our own, being extra careful and listening to Julie whilst using the toaster.

Once we made our welsh rarebit we all sat down to have a taste, It was definitely a thumbs up from class one!

We learnt that Cardiff is the Capital for Wales and that their flag has a big Dragon on it!

Our trip to wales wouldn’t be complete without making some beautiful yellow Daffodils and having a sing to Tom Jones!

To finish our week off we explored Scotland, making some very yummy chocolate chip shortbread but we were sooo busy rolling and stirring we forgot to take some pictures. Ooops!

Weekend Activity: Can you remember the 3 colours of the Union jack flag? We will give you a clue, one of the colours is white.

Have a lovely weekend

Pear Tree goes MADD

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 29-06-2017

What a special week we had last week at Peartree! It was MADD week, filled with Music, Art, Dance and Drama based around the theme Urban.

To kick start the week we had a dance lesson from Mimi who taught us some street dance moves!

We made our own version of a city scape using card, paint splattered on paper and chalk.

John Morrow came in to help us make music with recycled objects and hand made instruments, it was an amazing session.

The masters of Graffiti art came in to show us how to transform our walls in the adventure playground! It was very exciting putting on the suits and masks.

Then to finish the week off we had a whole school rave/ Garden party in the hall which was fantastic! Lots of dancing, singing and eating hot dogs and burgers!

Weekend Activity: Can you do something creative this weekend? It could be dancing to your favourite song, painting a picture or even making music with pots and pans.

Have a great weekend

Maths is FUN!

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 15-06-2017

The sun was shining at our festival themed MATHS IS FUN day this week! The hall was full of hustle and bustle with children exploring the many maths activities on different stalls. Face paints, Hot dogs, sun cream and music was in full swing as well as outdoor numeracy themed sport games on the grass.

It was especially great because Pear Tree invited other schools to come join the fun. We loved playing with new friends and learning new skills at the same time!

Class 1’s stall was coin sorting! It was tricky finding the correct coins to match the mystery cards but everyone gave it their best go!

What a fantastic day!

Weekend Activity: What coins will you be spending this weekend?

Sunshine and Science

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 25-05-2017

It has been perfect weather this week for our new science topic ‘Summer and Winter’. From dressing up in scarves, wellies and sunhats to sorting different pictures of summer and winter clothes by cutting and sticking them into the correct categories, we have never stopped!

In class we talked about the exciting things we like to do in the sunshine. There was a big list such as:

  • Riding our bikes
  • Playing outside
  • Having a BBQ
  • Swimming
  • Going to the beach
  • Camping in a tent
  • Bouncy castle

and the most popular choice was having a picnic!!! So to finish the week on a high, Jemma brought us in some delicious food so we could have a picnic in the shade on the adventure playground. It was lots of fun eating sausage rolls and drinking juice all together then having a little run and playing instruments in the sun (with lots of sun cream of course)!

Hope you all have a lovely week off for half term.

Make way for Africa!

Posted by Class 1 | Posted in General News | Posted on 04-05-2017

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a lovely Easter.

With so much to do and such little time we haven’t had chance to update the blog, so here is a whistle stop tour of all the fantastic lessons we have done:

To ease us back into the new term we started with a lovely calming R.E lesson learning about Buddhism. Making lotus flowers using cupcake cases and relaxing to music with sensory lights and material.

Last week we started our new literacy story ‘Handa’s Surprise’.

The story has lots of exotic fruits which Handa is taking to surprise her friend Akeyo but along the way African animals pinch the fruit from her basket. We had a great time tasting Passion fruit, Mango, Avocado and other tasty fruits.

For our display in class we are going to show off some of our amazing work we have done in Literacy and create some African animal art work to put up too. When the display is finished we will put a photo of the final masterpiece on the blog so watch this space…

Now on to this week!! In art we have been looking at all the different patterns and styles of clothes people might wear in Africa.

Lots of bold colours and jazzy patterns. We liked them so much we had a go at making our own T-shirts!

After working hard on our African master pieces we had lots of fun exploring African instruments, listening to traditional music and having a watch/dance to Zulu dancers.

Weekend activity: Can you make some African art using packaging and tubs from your recycling?

Have a lovely weekend
